#1 Ohio State (3-0) 35
#21 Missouri (2-1) 14

A ball-controlling rushing attack, along with forcing turnovers, and putting Ohio State in position to where they'd have to drive almost the whole field to score, was Missouri's only hope for an upset. For a while it worked, as the Tigers held a 14-13 lead at half-time due to a WR David Boston fumble after a catch of a long bomb from QB Joe Germaine, and a Germaine fumble on a scramble that was scooped up by Tiger DB Carlos Posey and returned 65 yards for a TD in the second quarter.

In the end, it was Ohio State's tough defense that rose to the occasion and wore down the Missouri offense with some hard hitting on a warm and muggy day in Ohio Stadium. LB Andy Katzenmoyer had 12 tackles. The defense only gave up seven points as a unit and held the Tigers to 211 yards of total offense. Missouri gave it their best shot, going up against their second top ranked opponent in two years (last year vs. #1 Nebraska at home in Columbia, Missouri, a tough 45-38 loss in O.T.).

The offensive stars were shining for Ohio State in this game. TB Michael Wiley ran for 209 yards on 24 carries and two TD's on runs of 21 and 11 yards; QB Joe Germaine was 19-25-0, no TD's, 211 yards; WR David Boston caught 9 passes for 112 yards and one two point conversion on a pass from Germaine. Two Dan Stultz FGs (27 and 36 yards), TD runs of six yards by TB Joe Montgomery and nine yards by TB Derek Combs finished Ohio State's scoring. OSU had 531 yards of total offense (third straight game over 500 yards), including 320 yards on the ground on 45 carries.

QB Corby Jones had 91 yards on 20 carries and one TD on a 10 yard run in the second quarter and was 6-11-0 passing for only 20 yards, and TB Devin West ran for 86 yards on 21 carries for Missouri.

This is a bye week for the Buckeyes. No game is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th. OSU's next game is at home against Penn State, the first game of the season in the Big Ten, on Saturday, October 3rd.
