| The University of Toledo Rockets, looking for respect struggled
in every aspect of the game, as OSU's overall physical talent
was too much for UT to handle in the 49-0 rout. Just about everybody
played as Buckeye head coach John Cooper unloaded the bench in
order to keep the score down in the middle of the third quarter. The Ohio State "Silver Bullet" defense unit was stifling. This group held the Rockets to 194 total yards (106 rushing on 35 carries and 88 passing on 15-36-5 INT's), including giving up only 35 yards and one first down in the first half. Toledo's highly-touted TB duo of Wasean Tait and DeWayne Harris was held to 59 yards on 21 carries (Tait 14-59 and Harris 7-0). OSU had the MAC's most talented QB, Chris Wallace, running for his life all-game long. The Ohio State offense rolled to 512 total yards (371 in the first half, 141 in the second half). The sole offensive star of the game for the Buckeyes was TB Michael Wiley (13-151 and two TD's on runs of 76 and 4 yards). QB Joe Germaine was steady, but not spectacular, in going 13-20-0 for 150 yards and 3TD passes (37 yards to Miller, 5 yards to Boston, and 5 yards to Reggie Germany). Germany was the only one of the outstanding receivers to have more than one TD (two TD's, the second one was a 47 yarder from backup QB Mark Garcia). Next up for #1 Ohio State is the Missouri Tigers (ranked #21) at Ohio Stadium this Saturday, September 19th. |
