| A David Boston 70 yard punt return for a touchdown midway
through the first quarter and three touchdown passes by QB Joe
Germaine (six yards to TE John Lumpkin in the second quarter,
and to WR David Boston for three yards in the third quarter and
two yards in the fourth quarter) were more than enough for a
solid OSU win as the Buckeye "Silver Bullet" defense
shut down the elusive and slippery Hoosier option QB Antwaan
Randle El (his brother, Curtis Randle El, starts in the IU defensive
secondary) and the Hoosier running game (31-77 as a team, 18-27
for Randle El). Although he had his problems running, Randle El didn't do that badly when throwing the football, completing 16 passes in 31 attempts with one INT for 218 yards and Indiana's lone TD, a 37 yard pass to WR Levron Williams near the end of the first half. While the defense was its usual almost unstoppable, the passing attack was clicking on all cylinders (34-48-0 for 390 yards as a team; 31-45-0 for a season-high 351 yards for Joe Germaine; WR Dee Miller caught 11 passes for 159 yards; and, along with his 3 TD's, WR David Boston had 110 yards on nine receptions) for Ohio State as the team continues to post big numbers in total offense (551 yards, the seventh time in eight games this year the team has gone over 500 yards). OSU (8-0, 5-0) moved up to No. 1 in the BCS Poll after UCLA struggled to beat a one-win Stanford team on Saturday, the Bucks now have a commanding lead in all three major polls. (AP, ESPN/USA Today, Bowl Championship Series). With the loss, IU falls to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the Big Ten. |
