| It was another classic OSU win against the Hawkeyes on November 14th. The Bucks were determined to come back big after last week's disappointing loss to Michigan State (28-24). The offense led by Joe Germaine totaled 627 yards, which was the most by OSU since the 639 yards racked up against Northwestern in 1981. Also, the sixth in the school's history. Tailback Joe Montgomery rushed for a career-high 160 yards at Iowa in 1996. This year he rushed for 144. It started with an 80-yard run. But Iowa seemed determined to make a game of it when they pulled a surprise option run by Mullen. But Mullen was taken out completely when a hit by defensive tackle Joe Brown broke his collarbone. This was the first of many sacks. Ohio State racked up 11, which will go down in the school record book. As we predicted, the second half was time for Ohio State to shine, as Iowa could only muster up 21 yards of offense (with 180 total for the game). The Hawkeyes were held to only 21 yards rushing, which is also a record of sorts, as it is the eighth time in 10 games this year that OSU held an opponent to 79 or less yards rushing. |
