Sugar Bowl

Ohio State 24 - Texas A&M 14

After forcing OSU to punt on the game's first series, A&M took the ball and marched down the field to score in quick fashion, capped off by a nine yard touchdown run by Dante Hall to go up 7-0. The game looked like it was going to be a dogfight, but the Buckeyes regrouped in time to put up three quick first quarter TD's in less than seven minutes (an 18 yard TD pass from QB Joe Germaine to WR Reggie Germany, a 10 yard run for a score by TB Joe Montgomery and a blocked punt by Derek Ross that was scooped up and returned 16 yards by Kevin Griffin for the last touchdown of the opening quarter) as Ohio State never looked back. PK Dan Stultz added a 31 yard FG at the end of the second quarter for a 24-7 lead at halftime.

The Aggies added one TD in the third quarter on a seven -yard pass from QB Brandon Stewart to Hodge. Both defenses dominated the second half. OSU, after a few missed opportunities to score, got conservative and settled for the ten point win in what looked like a sure blowout after the first quarter.

The Buckeye defense held A&M to 283 yards of total offense, well below their average, while the Bucks rolled to 432 yards in a very satisfying win after what happened last year in this game vs. FSU.

The OSU TB duo of Michael Wiley and Joe Montgomery combined for 184 yards on 25 carries. WR David Boston was the Sugar Bowl MVP on offense, catching 11 passes for 105 yards. After finishing 11-1 (fifth time in the last six years with ten or more wins and four in a row), Ohio State looks to finish 2nd or 3rd in all polls depending on what happens in the Fiesta Bowl National Championship Game.
