A 100 yard kickoff return for a TD by Michael Wiley in the first quarter helped O.S.U. hold off their fired-up rivals from Northwest Ohio. Rivals, who were determined to keep this one competitive. The sloppy Buckeyes lost four fumbles and led only 17-13 late in the first half.

After that, the momentum started swinging toward Ohio State, as Derek Combs tackled B.G. punter Andy Pollock at the Falcon 29 yard line. Joe Germaine then threw a 29 yard TD pass on the next play to Dee Miller to increase O.S.U.'s lead to 24-13 just before halftime, much to the pleasure of the shocked, sold-out crowd.

The second half was a different story. The depth of the Buckeyes began to take its toll on B.G. Ohio State slowly began to pull away from the well-prepared Falcons.

The defense held B.G. to one yard rushing in the second half and 169 yards of total offense for the game.

Six penalties hurt O.S.U. in this game. None more than David Boston's long punt return for a TD that was called back for a marginal clipping call.

Pregame Rundown

B.G. (1-1) O.S.U. (1-0)
At Louisiana Tech 23-30 (L) Wyoming 24-10 (W)
Miami of Ohio 28-21 (W)

This is a game that looks to be a big blowout, but surely the big question on the minds of some fans is: "Can the Falcons hang around with the Buckeyes?" That's a tough one!

We think they can for a half. Remember, they had a 17 point second quarter lead over a tough La. Tech squad. A come-from-behind victory over Miami at those last Saturday gave them the jolt of confidence they needed. But it will take an almost perfect game to upset the heavily-favored Bucks in the Horseshoe, as Ohio State has too much speed and depth.

If the Bucks smooth out their erratic play, and use the run to set up the pass, it will be a long afternoon for the men in orange.

Three things to remember:

1. O.S.U. doesn't necessarily play that well when they are a huge favorite, as was the case in the Wyoming game.
2. MAC teams play tough with big opponents, at times. For example, Toledo pounded Purdue last Saturday and B.G., with basically the same players this season, lost to Alabama only 21-7 last season.
3. Several B.G. players were rejected by O.S.U. That in itself will be pure motivation.

Key players for both teams:
O.S.U. - QB Stanley Jackson, R. Michael Wiley, and LB Andy Katzenmoyer.

B.G. - QB Bob Niemet, WR Damron Hamilton, and LB Kevin O'Neill.

Prediction: O.S.U. 35-14
