The number one
ranking that OSU has been given in most major polls will be tested
right away as they visit the West Virginia Mountaineers at night
at wild and crazy Mountaineer Field in Morgantown, West Virginia.
This hostile environment will absolutely be rocking. This is
the game the whole state of West Virginia has been waiting for
for years in the biggest home game in the school's history.
Three things to Remember:
- WVU TB Zereoue is a Heisman candidate. He decided not to
go pro for one reason only -- to beat OSU! Stopping him along
with putting pressure on QB Bulger will be the keys for Ohio
State's defense.
- The intangibles are in favor of the Mountaineers:
One of the Toughest places to play in the country; West Virginia
feels OSU has been avoiding playing them for years; The chance
to not only knock off the Nation's #1 team, but the chance to
get into the National Title picture as well with a win; Mountaineer
Head Coach Don Nehlen is from Ohio and would like nothing better
than to beat the buckeyes; an outstanding team on the road coupled
with a frenzied atmosphere, has to make any Buckeye fan worry
some.
- Ohio State has been through this before - going on the road
to tough places to play where fans are loud, drunk and crazy,
and have done well. Some of the toughest road games are in the
Big Ten. There is no pressure situation the Bucks haven't seen.
They have seen it all.
Much has been said in the national media about Andy Katzenmoyer's
academic status for the Fall, including the courses he is taking
to become eligible. All of this media circus has been making
the "Big Kat" mad. I wouldn't want to be on an opposing
team that the Big Guy takes out his agressions on. The madder
he gets, the better he plays.
Not only will Nehlen want a victory over the Bucks, OSU Offensive
coordinator Mike Jacobs will be itching for a win as well. He
was an assistant under Don Nehlen from 1980 - 1994, the last
nine years as WVU's Offensive Coordinator.
Ohio State is ranked #1 just about eerywhere you look. It's exciting
to be ranked #1 for the first time since 1980, but what we here
at the TriviaZone don't understand is how can OSU be at the top
of the polls when they cannot get that big win over the likes
of Michigan or Florida State? Let's hope this is the year that
wins like that can occur while fending off every team's best
shot. Make that better than best shot. Starting with West Virginia!
Prediction: OSU 27 - 20.
