The Rose Bowl
Ohio State Buckeyes (10-1) -vs- Arizona State Sun Devils (11-0)

OSU Wins Rose Bowl, 20 to 17!

Update Ohio State beat Arizona State, 20 to 17 in a come from behind win. Ironic that this was the score of the last Rose Bowl in which Ohio State competed, in 1985. They competed against Southern Cal. in that game -- only that was a loss for OSU. Definitely like this game's outcome better! Check out our ChatZone page, where an OSU fan, Pat Neuser, was right on the money with his prediction that there would be an OSU win, 20 to 17. Great Job, Pat! Give us your post-game responses on our ChatZone page, now. We'd like to hear what you have to say. -GO BUCKS-
Below was our prediction of how the game would play out. We came close with a prediction of an OSU win, 23 - 17. Not bad!

This is a game that hoped to match two unbeaten teams with a shot at the national title. What the Rose Bowl got, however, was something short of that... A.S.U., PAC-10 conference champions, beat their rival and nemesis Arizona 56 to 14 to end the regular season with an unbeaten record -- and still very much alive in their hunt for the championship. But, O.S.U. was not as fortunate, losing to their bitter rival, Michigan, at home 13 to 9. This ended their season with a Co-Big Ten championship with Northwestern, and only an outside shot at the big prize.

The Buckeyes have struggled moving the ball in their last two games. What does not help is their two-quarterback system, which worked so well for them most of the year, is now back-firing. Both quarterbacks, Stanley Jackson and Joe Germaine, are as "cold as ice". And, tailback, Pepe Pearson, has rushed for 1383 yards and is about "rushed out". On a better note, offensive lineman, Orlando Pace, finished fourth in the Heisman chase. Just to be mentioned as a candidate for this award is almost unheard of for a lineman! Not bad for an award that mainly goes to an offensive-skill position player.

The story of the Rose Bowl could be Ohio State's highly-ranked defense. A tough, highly-motivated group of mostly Seniors, they have three shut-outs and are giving up just a little more than 10 points a game. There is no doubt this bunch they call "the Silver Bullets" is the primary reason for O.S.U.'s success this year. Look for them to be the reason for O.S.U.'s success in the Rose Bowl!

Bottom Line: At the time of this summarization, the Buckeyes are a 1 1/2 point favorite to beat the Sun Devils. It will be a tight one. Ohio State's "Silver Bullets" will keep them in the game with a "come from behind" win in overtime 23 to 17.

Go Bucks!
