The Gray Team, led by Quarterback Mark Garcia, was in control throughout. Defense and Head Coach, John Cooper, notified officials before the game that once any quarterback was touched by a defensive player, the whistle was to be blown, ending the play and protecting the quarterbacks from injury. This was the story throughout the scrimmage. That particular rule gave both defenses a tremendous advantage. Each unit applied pressure on the quarterbacks all game long, combining for a total of four interceptions.
A huge crowd of an estimated 55,000 fans was on hand, mostly to see how the team's three-way quarterback battle is shaping up. The fans did not get much of an answer. Nothing has changed. All three had their ups and downs, but they were put in a situation where they couldn't show their full potential because of the rules. Joe Germaine and Stanley Jackson shared time for the Scarlet Team (1st team offense and 2nd team defense), while Mark Garcia played most of the game for the Gray Team (2nd team offense and 1st team defense) to get a better idea what he can do.
For now, it seems, the quarterback position is still the same. Stanley Jackson and Joe Germaine split time with Mark Garcia waiting and hoping to close the gap in the fall. One thing is certain, he has a strong arm and a nice touch. He has some speed, as his 19 yard run-down to the one-yard line in the first quarter showed that defenses have to respect that part of his game too.
Quarterback might not be the only starting position up for grabs. Competition is getting pretty stiff at tailback. Not only did Michael Wiley secure the backup role, but he could take several minutes away from starter Pepe Pearson. Wiley ran for 99 yards on 19 carries.
John Cooper said Nick Goings, listed as a tailback and an excellent runner, will probably be the backup with fullback to Matt Keller.
The kicking game looks strong with punter, Brent Bartholomew, and place-kicker, Dan Stultz, booming their kicks in practice and in the game.
The talent is their for yet another outstanding season in the "horseshoe". You know the saying, "We don't rebuild, we reload." It seems to be that way more at OSU, than at any other school in the nation.

Below, check out a few pictures taken at the game. We hope to get a "fan's eye view" of each game this coming season by posting pictures taken by fans. Hope you enjoy. Any comments? Let us know!
